VIDEO: Michigan State @ Pitt Highlights

September 20, 2006

After some computer/time troubles, we’re back and should be blogging as usual again. These highlights have been waiting since Sunday to go up, so let’s get to it.

Again please remember these are PITT highlights, and in a game like this those were few and far between (like the 1st quarter and the last play of the game). If there are any plays that aren’t here that you want to see just leave a comment and I’ll have it up within a day. I keep the recordings of the games until the next game is played.

Pitt started off fast on their first drive after stopping MSU. The highlight of that first drive was probably this diving reception by Derek Kinder:

Bryant’s Temper Making Headlines

September 14, 2006

Couple of articles out of the Bay Area following the 49ers loss to Arizona on Sunday focusing on Antonio Bryant‘s temper. Apparently his reputation preceded him and it took all of one game for it to rear it’s ugly head.

I’ll give you some article excerpts first, but then check out the video from NFL Live and listen to Salisbury defend him…I have to agree, AB was obviously dragged down out of bounds and appears to be pointing it out to the ref, not taunting. You can decide for yourself after the jump.

VIDEO: Pitt @ Cincinnatti Highlights

September 13, 2006

I know this is a site for Panthers in the NFL/NBA (I created the site, so I guess I should), but considering the lack of video highlights readily available for recent Pitt games I have decided to take this task upon myself.

When a game is available on tv in the Pittsburgh area and my Tivo cooperates in recording it, I will be posting video highlights of the games within a few days or so. This game is a little late because I just decided to do this yesterday.

I usually keep the games on my Tivo until the next week’s game, so if there are plays you want to see that aren’t here, leave a comment on the highlight post with a description of the play and as close to a time in the game when it happened as you can and I’ll do my best. Usually I will post scoring plays and turnovers by default, but probably not field goals. Oh, and this is a PITT site showing PITT highlights, so by default there will be no scoring plays for other teams or bad plays by Pitt, unless they are requested.

So, without further babbling…

We’ll start off with a 37 yard pass from Tyler Palko to Derek Kinder. Unbelievable hands and concentration by Kinder to hold on. This was with about 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter:

VIDEO: Fitzgerald Gets Some Love From Ditka

September 12, 2006

Haven’t posted video from this weekend yet, been under the weather and just busy with life in general…but here’s an interesting clip I saw during yesterday afternoon’s NFL Primetime…which was showing at like 3:30 in the afternoon…because ESPN’s pregame for last night started around 1pm last Thursday…anyways…

The clip is from the highlights of the Cardinals-49ers game Sunday, and Stu Scott asks the question of if you could have only one receiver, would it be Boldin or Fitz. Everyone agrees it would be Fitz, but the best line is from Ditka (another pitt alumni…look for the new Panthers in Broadcasting blog anyday now) “You’ve gotta take him, he went to Pitt”.

VIDEO: Antonio Bryant 46 Yard Catch

August 24, 2006

OK finally got the video hardware/software working and had the 49ers-Raiders game still on the Tivo from Sunday so I figured I’d try a clip out. This is Antonio Bryant‘s 46-yard reception in the second quarter Sunday night.

Let me know what you think. The video quality when I recorded it is so clear, but after uploading to youtube, they must really take the video quality down a good bit. I’m going to play around with some other codecs and see which one works best for us, but at least it’s a start.

Monday Night Roundup

August 22, 2006

Both teams in the Monday night game had former Panthers on the field but none of the three Pitt alumni were starters as the Dallas Cowboys visited the New Orleans Saints.

Lousaka Polite was the closest to being a starter of the three. Lou is the Cowboys’ top fullback but the team does not usually start in a formation that uses a fullback. Lou got one carry in the second quarter on a 3 and 1 but was stopped for no gain. QB Drew Bledsoe snuck up the middle on fourth and 1 to convert the first down.

Rob Petitti did not start at his tackle position but did play in the game.

Josh Lay is the only Panther on the Saints roster, and he did get in the game late, making a tackle in the fourth quarter on a 25 yard run by Dallas.

Video Update
I should be able to upload some video clips of the 49ers game from Sunday night and this Monday night game by the end of the week. Once I figure out the new piece of hardware I am getting in the mail in the next day or so and can start uploading clips of your Panthers to YouTube, there will be video clips of every game I can get film on relatively quickly after they are played.

Saturday NFL Roundup

August 20, 2006

Nick Goings

Saturday was a busy night for Panthers around the league…some trying to stay on the team for another round of cuts, some just trying to get in a little work and not get injured and some in between. Highlights of the night were Charles Spencer starting his first game for the Texans and Nick Goings scoring a touchdown.

I haven’t been able to see the game film of any of these games, so these updates are all from wire reports and articles around the net. I should be able to see some games as they replay on the NFL network this week though.

Miami 13
Tampa Bay 10

Dave Moore did not play as a tight end, but got in five long snaps on punts and field goals. This is how he will make this team, not because of his tight end skills.
Torrie Cox had three total tackles, all in the first half. Seemed to play a good bit in the first half and not at all in the second. Cox did pick up a defensive holding penalty on the Dolphin’s last drive of the first half. The penalty was on a third and two to keep Miami’s drive alive that eventually ended in a field goal before the half.

Carolina 17
Jacksonville 10

Nick Goings did not start but picked up three first half carries for 22 yards and a two yard touchdown. He started the night off with a 19 yard run up the middle. On the kickoff following his score, Goings made the tackle but was also offsides. Maybe a little too excited over a preseason touchdown.

Minnesota 17
Pittsburgh 10

Malcolm Postell did get into the game but made no tackles or any plays of note.

Houston 27
St. Louis 20

As reported here on Panthers in the Pros earlier this week, Charles Spencer started at left tackle for the Houston Texans Saturday night. I haven’t seen the film yet, I will tomorrow I believe, but the only thing of note so far is that Charles picked up a false start penalty on a third and five in the first quarter and Houston did not convert on the following third and ten. Probably some first start jitters for big Charles.
Ramon Walker was not active for the game. I’m not sure if he was hurt or not, I will look into this though. All I can find out so far is that he was not practicing this week, so I am assuming he has some sort of injury. The notes section I picked that up out of though said that Kubiak was not concerned about his injury or him not practicing.

Arizona 3
New England 30

Larry Fitzgerald played the first quarter with the starters and had one reception for 26 yards. Fitz also picked up a tackle on a deep pass intended for him that was intercepted. He also had a 16 yard catch called back on a holding penalty
Gerald Hayes matched Larry’s tackle output with one tackle, and also got a personal foul facemask on a touchdown run by Corey Dillon. Hayes did not start at MLB.

Tennessee 10
Denver 35

Brandon Miree did play in the game but got no carries and no penalties. If I see the film from this game later in the week I’ll update if there is anything of note. Not sure yet if Miree was playing FB as he is listed on the depth chart or HB.

Another note
I should be able to start uploading videos in the next week or so, so look for videos of all of these panthers here soon.
