Oh, Canada

August 25, 2007

Team CanadaSo our first post on our way back won’t actually be about a Panther in a professional league. Go figure.

For those of you (or in my case, my wife) who have missed seeing Levon Kendall fixing his hair during basketball games…you’re in luck. ESPN2 will have the Team USA vs. Team Canada matchup from the FIBA America’s Men’s Championship today at 3pm.

So if you missed Carl Krauser and his US Virgin Islands team getting a 64-point beat down at the hands of Team USA on Thursday, here’s another chance to watch some former Panthers play basketball before football season gets underway. Krauser had 10 points and 1 assist on Thursday against the US, but he only played 17 minutes due to foul trouble.

Kendall and Krauser played each other (well, their teams did…but all we care about is them) on Friday, Team Levon pulling out the 93-83 victory. Krauser played 26 minutes in this one…and ended up with almost the same stat line he had in 17 minutes against Team USA. 10 points, 3 assists and this time he had 5 personal fouls (I think that is fouling out. I have no idea how international basketball works). Kendall played only 8 minutes but had 6 points.

Team Canada leads Group B with a 2-1 record, but that could change after playing Team USA today. The Virgin Islands (or Team X) is 0-2, so they pretty much have to win their two remaining group games to have a shot of advancing.

We’ll be keeping up with this thing for the rest of the tournament as long as Canada or Team X is still in it…but ESPN seems to only be televising Team USA games so far, so this may be your last chance to see one of our Panthers in the tournament.
